Kolkata is well connected to the rest of India by the extensive railway network of Indian Railways. Two divisions of Indian Railways – the headquarters of the Eastern Railway and the South Eastern Railway are in the city. Two major railway stations in the city are in Howrah and Sealdah. A new railway line offshoot has been built to link the airport to Sealdah lines.

It is the gateway to Northeast India, Bangkok and Bangladesh. In the last few years, the number of people using the airport has increased steadily. There is a flying club in Behla. After several years of inactivity it has been recently restored.
